Sobral I photovoltaic power plant

The Sobral I solar energy plant (34.74 MWp) is located in the state of Piauí in northern Brazil. It was built in a record time of 8 months. It is the first photovoltaic generation plant outside Spain and occupies 100 hectares. It includes over 100,000 panels; 10,000 units are installed every day, which translates into 2.6 MW, and explains the over 900 workers needed for this.

The plant is set to produce an estimated 154 GWh per year and forms part of an agreement with the Brazilian State system to sell generated energy over a 20-year period. The plant is made up of 108.000 modules. It poses a challenge in terms of equipment monitoring and requires a large number of routine tasks to be managed swiftly and safely, with a reduced and different form of organisation.

Guimarania I & II photovoltaic power plant

The 83MWp photovoltaic projects, named Guimarania I and Guimarania II and acquired by GPG from Canadian Solar Inc., are located in the state of Minas Gerais, and are expected to start operating in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The Savanna project is a solar photovoltaic plant with an estimated capacity of 82.58 MWp, which will be located in the municipality of Guimarania in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. When in operation, it will have an estimated production of 165 GWh, which will be supplied to the Electricity Energy Commercialisation Chamber (CCEE), as established in the supply contract (PPA) signed following the allocation of this project in the 2nd Reserve Energy Auction of 2015.

The facilities to be developed by GPG are associated with a generated power sales agreement over 20 years with the Brazilian State system, at an approximate average price of €97.5/MWh. It is estimated that the project will produce 165 GWh annually. This contract will allow GPG to secure regulated income until 2038.

In terms of EBITDA, Savanna will provide an EBITDA of 12 million USD in 2019, increasing GPG’s EBITDA by approximately 4%.
