On November 14th, the Cunderdin Hybrid PV Solar & BESS project had the honor of hosting the first official visit from the Cunderdin Shire Council in Western Australia. This meeting provided a valuable opportunity to highlight and deepen the understanding of the unique and innovative features that position this project as a benchmark in the region’s transition to clean energy.
Among the distinguished visitors included Stuart Hobley (CEO), Hayley Byrnes (Deputy CEO), Alison Harris (Shire President), Tony Smith (Deputy President), and Natalie Snooke (Shire Councillor).
The visit was conducted by our colleague Fernando González, Project Director of the Cunderdin Hybrid PV Solar + BESS project, and also attended by Haridian Fuentes, GPG Australia’s Stakeholder Engagement Manager, as well as by Marco Romero, GPG Australia’s Community & Stakeholder Engagement Officer.
This is the first hybrid utility-scale solar with storage project of its kind in Western Australia, marking a significant milestone not only for GPG Australia but also for GPG and the company.
The project is currently in its commissioning phase and is expected to commence its full operations in early 2025.
The visit began with a comprehensive introduction by Fernando González at the site office, after which the group toured the farm to gain a better understanding of the panel operation system and the batteries.
To conclude, the visitors were taken to the substation, located next to the communication tower.
“GPG Australia looks forward to hosting more visits in the future, as the Council and the community have consistently shown great interest in this project. This support is deeply rewarding and provides an opportunity to further raise awareness and strengthen our commitment to the clean energy transition we are undertaking all together”, says Fernando González, Project Director.
The Cunderdin Shire Council has provided outstanding support to the project since its early stages of development. GPG Australia really appreciates this collaborative approach with the Council and will continue fostering this valuable relationship once the project will be fully operational.
Within this favourable context, the official visit marks another highlight in a week full of activities in Cunderdin, during which GPG Australia has further strengthened a strong and fruitful relationship with the local community.
