GPG Mexico celebrates “Corn Day” through the CCC Tuxpan III and IV power plant and the Bií Hioxo wind farm

On 29 September, GPG Mexico, via the community engagement teams of the Tuxpan III and IV combined cycle power plant in Veracruz, and the Bií Hioxo wind farm in Oaxaca, marked “Corn Day”. This celebration honours maize, a vital part of Mexican cuisine and a national symbol.

In Juchitán, a series of workshops were conducted for 17 primary school groups, reaching a total of 198 children. An extra workshop also took place in Nacanu’Bií for a group of 10 children from the 7th Section.

On 30 September, the community relations team from CECC Tuxpan III and IV participated in the “2nd Corn Fair”, invited by the Veracruz Institute of Ecology (IVECCO), at Quinta la Esperanza. Approximately 300 attendees, mainly students, gathered to celebrate and recognise the significance of corn in Mexican culture and cuisine.

At the GPG stand, information was shared about the environmental educators project and the gardens being established at the Telebachilleratos of Kilometres 8 and 15, along with other environmental education initiatives.

The fair, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featured around 15 exhibitor stands offering a wide array of corn-derived products.

Besides serving as a marketplace, the event aimed to emphasise the significance of corn as a staple of Mexican cuisine, while also addressing topics related to agriculture, maize production, and its cultural importance, among others.

Participating institutions included various educational entities such as the Centro de Estudios Tecnológicos del Mar (CETMAR), Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Álamo Temapache (ITSAT), Universidad del Golfo de México (UGM), Sembrando Vida, Instituto Veracruzano de Ecología (IVEECO), and the Brigada de Educación para el Desarrollo Rural No.18. Government agencies like the Secretaría de Marina, the Army, and the Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional de Tuxpan (ASIPONA) also took part in the fair.
