Since we have commenced our activity in Australia in 2008 with the acquisition of a wind farm project portfolio, a remarkable evolution has taken place, especially once the last 20-year Feed-in-tariff agreement in the Australian market was awarded by the ACT Government (Australian Capital Territory) in 2016 that enabled GPG to make its first wind farm in Australia a reality. That moment marked a turning point in the history of GPG Australia, that has continued following a growth path to make the portfolio feasible.
Our GPG Australia’s team has been working hard to fulfill the mandate of our Parent Company, Naturgy Group, to grow the business to 2.2GW in accordance with the current Strategy Plan for the 2021-2025 period, with Australia only second to Spain as the home country in terms of growth mandate. The company has been fortunate to secure additional power purchase agreements to bring additional paper projects in the portfolio into reality.
The three current operational projects Crookwell 2 wind farm (91MW, New South Wales) with the ACT government, Berrybank 1 wind farm (180MW, Victoria) and the ACT Battery (10 MW/20MWh, Australian Capital Territory) are the result of the great team effort and perseverance. With another project very close to start operations, Berrybank 2 wind farm (109MW, Victoria), GPG Australia is currently simultaneously managing the construction of four additional projects: Ryan Corner wind farm (218 MW, Victoria), Crookwell 3 wind farm (58MW, New South Wales), Cunderdin Solar PV and Energy Storage Project (100MWac Solar PV, 55MW/220MWh Battery Energy Storage System, Western Australia) and Hawkesdale wind farm (97MW, Victoria).
Two other wind farms from the original portfolio are under development, while new projects mainly photovoltaic solar developments are being acquired to add them to the portfolio, in combination with the development of greenfield battery projects, with a clear core business focused on onshore wind, solar and energy storage.
We aspire not only to achieve the challenging growth objectives but also to become an excellent asset manager and asset owner, as the project portfolio under development and construction will become operational, and a reference in terms of respect for and commitment with the local community.
