Adamaris Bautista, a Día Solidario scholarship recipient, receives support to preserve Totonaca gastronomy in Veracruz

Adamaris Bautista, a student at the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Naranjos and an Industrial Engineering student with a Día Solidario scholarship, has received a grant of over 95,000 Mexican pesos to fund her project with GPG Mexico, titled “Bilingual Totonaco-Spanish Recipe Book: Cooking the Flavour of Linda Vista”. This project was selected in the #PACMyC2024 call for proposals.

The project aims to develop initiatives to preserve the language, music, textiles, and embroidery, as well as the gastronomy of the cultural heritage of Mexico’s indigenous peoples.

The “Bilingual Totonaco-Spanish Recipe Book: Cooking the Flavour of Linda Vista” is a project developed in collaboration with CCC Tuxpan III and IV, the women of the Lindavista community (part of the Kilometres community), the community relations team, and community volunteers from the Kilometres route.

The presentation event took place at the Teodoro Cano Museum in Papantla, Veracruz, and was attended by representatives of the Totonaca cultural community and local authorities. Adamaris Bautista’s project was chosen from among nine proposals that celebrate the richness and diversity of cultural expressions in the Totonaca-Huasteca region.

Silvia Alejandre Prado, representing the Ministry of Culture, congratulated the cultural promoters and emphasised the importance of preserving Veracruz’s cultural heritage. Also in attendance were Facunda Juárez Hernández, coordinator of the Regional Unit of Popular Cultures in Papantla, and Geraldine Pedroza Parra, director of the Casa de Cultura de Papantla.
