Environmental protection has been one of the main objectives of the Bií Hioxo wind farm, which has made a symbolic effort to contribute to its preservation through its Nacanu’ Bií Community House.
Reforestation and commitment to the community
The main activity of the Bií Hioxo wind farm this year has been reforestation. The last one took place on 9 November.
This activity was carried out in the sports field of the Lorenza Santiago Esteva colony parallel to the Séptima Sección, where neighbours, settlers, volunteers (Xquendas), and staff from the wind farm and the Community House came together. 24 people participated.
During the handover ceremony, the wind farm’s commitment to the community was expressed by investing in the rehabilitation of green and recreational areas that serve as spaces free of violence and promote a culture of peace. Alma Delia Vasquez Salinas, the leader of the colony, was grateful and, together with the neighbours, promised to take care of the facilities in the area being renovated and the 60 seedlings that were planted that day.
- 15 mango trees
- 14 majahuas
- 15 almond trees
- 1 weeping figs
- 5 neems
- 10 garden plants
With this activity, in 2024 the Bií Hioxo wind farm has managed to transplant 415 trees of different species in 8 different areas of the community, 2 recreational parks and 6 schools in Juchitán, mainly located in the Séptima Sección.
“All the settlers and I are very grateful for the support they are giving us, thank God that the Bií Hioxo wind farm has helped us, because this space was already very neglected and now it looks different. Children and teenagers attend the camp and we are committed to caring for and watering the seedlings. The Bií Hioxo wind farm has opened its doors to the colony. And we will be in all the activities accompanying them, this is their home, the Lorenza Santiago neighbourhood”said Alma Delia Vázquez Salinas, leader of the colony.
