Children Learn to Care for Water at the “Friends of the Earth” Summer Camp (Agua Prieta, Mexico)

On June 26th, as part of the Friends of the Earth summer camp organized by the Municipal Water, Sewer and Sanitation Operator (OOMAPAS) of Agua Prieta, the educational session “How is water cleaned?” was held with great enthusiasm. The talk was aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 8.

Throughout the activity, the young participants enjoyed a fun and enriching experience: they watched an interactive video, took part in an engaging presentation, and witnessed a live experiment that introduced them to the “tiny critters”—microorganisms that play a key role in the water purification process. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity, laughter, and amazement.

As part of the environmental message, the children also expressed their creativity through watercolor paintings, illustrating scenes of water and the planet from their own perspective. At the end, they excitedly received backpacks, pens, and other gifts provided by GPG, who warmly thanks the young participants for their energy and engagement.

The session was led by Araceli Guadalupe Esquivel, a chemist and head of the Naco Nogales Power Plant near Agua Prieta. With clarity, warmth, and commitment, she planted a valuable seed of environmental awareness in the hearts of the children.

GPG recognize the value of initiatives like this, which promote sustainable development and environmental education from an early age. GPG is  proud to help inspire new generations who are committed to protecting water and caring for the planet.
