Bií Hióxo wind farm and Universidad del Istmo collaborate on reforestation project in Juchitán

In an effort to promote sustainability and mitigate environmental impact, the Bií Hióxo wind farm through its Casa Comunitaria Nacanu’ Bií has carried out reforestation days in different areas of Juchitán throughout the year.

These actions aim to restore degraded areas and contribute to the enhancement of local biodiversity, in line with environmental policies and global carbon reduction targets.

This reforestation day took place on 7 September at the Universidad del Istmo, located on the Juchitán – La Ventosa road near other wind farms, which has been visited previously as part of the tours with students inside the Bií Hioxo wind farm, where there is an educational gondola of a wind turbine on the premises.

During the reforestation, 107 people participated, including nursing and nutrition students, teachers and administrative staff. A total of 105 specimens of the following species were transplanted:

  • 20 majahuas
  • 30 weeoping figs
  • 25 neems
  • 25 almond trees
  • 5 orchids

With this activity, 87% of the objective has been achieved, which represents a total of 305 plants out of the estimated 350 in the community of Juchitán.

“Will there be more days ahead? I would like to be able to support them in the next ones and contribute to the care of the environment”, explained a UNISTMO nursing student.

“Building a community is not easy: companies, universities, young people… Let’s do more!”, said a UNISTMO professor.

“We appreciate the support of the donation of the seedlings to the Institute, we would like to collaborate with some spaces for the community such as the clinical laboratory and the nutrition area, do not hesitate to ask for support for what is required,” stated M. A. Oscar Cortés Olivares, Vice Rector of the Universidad del Istmo.
