Celebrating the sacred ritual of Juchitán de Zaragoza

The Zapotec people of Juchitán de Zaragoza and other parts of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec have, since ancient times, made pilgrimages to three different shrines located within the polygon of our Bií Hioxo wind farm.

These pilgrimages are religious activities aimed at worshipping the deities of each of the shrines at different times of the year.

The sanctuaries we visited are:

Santa Cruz Guzebenda (de los pescadores)

Santa Cruz Gue’la Be’ñe (Dios lagarto)

Santa Cruz Chigueze

We are proud to contribute to the preservation of these important ancestral customs of the Zapotec people in the environment of our activity.
The route followed by the pilgrims starts in Juchitán de Zaragoza and then goes through the site of our wind farm Bií Hioxo until they reach their destination.

From GPG Mexico, we contribute to the organisation and development of these pilgrimages by carrying out actions such as the conditioning of the sanctuaries, the restoration of spaces for pilgrims to enjoy this celebration and the improvement of the roads that are travelled in this religious act to ensure safety conditions.

We are proud to contribute to the preservation of these important ancestral customs of the Zapotec people in the environment of our activity.
