As every year, the 10th GPG Mexico Inter-plant Games were held in one of the GPG centrals. This year, for the celebration ofe its tenth edition, the Bií Hioxo wind farm has been the chosen place. There were more than 90 employees from the different power plants in Mexico, the Palamara and La Vega power plants in the Dominican Republic and a representative from EcoEléctrica in Puerto Rico.
The Isthmus of Tehuantepec, where the park is located, stands out for its cultural and gastronomic diversity. As a result, during their stay at the event, the participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a multitude of gastronomic and cultural experiences. These ranged from savouring the authentic flavours of regional dishes like seafood, tlayudas, garnachas, garnachero chicken, botanas istmeñas, etc. to actively engaging in the cultural festivities through traditional dance performances, sones istmeños (presented by the esteemed music and dance groups of Nacanu’Bií), and a Calenda, which is a traditional festival celebrated in the Oaxaca region. During the Calenda, friends and neighbours paraded around in colourful costumes, marmots and Oaxacan chinas.
The marmots surprised with their dizzying movements, mimicking the wind. They are made of reeds, wear loose clothing and their heads are made of papier-mâché. In addition, a brass band played melodic chords of the region’s classical sounds under the Oaxacan sky.
The sporting competitions were held in three disciplines: football, volleyball and basketball, in which the North Durango, , Tuxpan III and IV, Naco Nogales, La Caridad, Corporativo Ciudad de México, Palamara and La Vega (Dominican Republic) and Grupo México (a friendly company invited to the last two inter-plant games) actively participated. The Puerto Rican representative also took part.
Given that the operation of the plants is such a priority, on this occasion our colleagues from Hermosillo CCP were unable to attend the event. However, we once again came together as a company and formed a team to represent them so that they could take part in the event.
The aim of these meetings is to give the participants the opportunity to get to know each other better, to get integrated, to learn about the specifics of the GPG facilities and to carry out recreational activities that motivate the team outside of the work environment.
Here are the results of each discipline:
