Two decades of operations is a significant milestone that deserves recognition. It represents the tangible daily effort and accomplishment, or rather a series of accomplishments, for the company and its employees. Personally, for many people who work in this place, it has led to changes in residence, lifestyle, maturity, growth, and the formation of families away from their original homes.
To celebrate CCP Naco Nogales’ 20th anniversary this year, a range of special events have been planned. These events aim to involve the families of the staff, promote social interaction, increase awareness about environmental protection, and acknowledge the individuals who have played a crucial role in making this achievement possible: the workers.
Family get-together and environmental awareness raising
On Saturday 9 September, activities focused on families spending time together and protecting the natural environment through recycling and the circular economy. Families were invited to a series of workshops offered by the DouglaPrieta Works organisation at the plant site. This involved recycling waste bins and cans to make stools, while the children took part in a watercolour painting workshop.
Kermés-Mexican evening
The Kermés (from the Dutch kerkcmisse, a word made up of the words kerkc, church and misse, mass) is a popular festival whose origins date back to Mexican colonial times and has survived as a tradition of conviviality, games, food, many colours, jokes, raffles and music.
This was the activity that took place on the afternoon of 15 September, with the presence of a classic rock band formed by some of the staff’s children. It was an afternoon of socialising, prizes and awards.
Reforestation in the primary schools Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Nueva Creación
On the afternoon of the 27 September, together with the municipal DIF, the school authorities of the primary schools, the children of the Agua Prieta children’s home and the staff of the facility took part in a reforestation campaign carried out with trees from the facility’s greenhouse: 14 Apache pines, 48 ash trees and 23 mesquite trees, which were distributed equally between the two schools.
Picnic and gathering for families
The employees and their families from CCP Naco Nogales enjoyed a day at Tamosura Park in Cananea, a neighbouring town of Agua Prieta. A total of 80 persons took part in this get-together, which featured five different activities. The participants were divided into three teams, with approximately five families in each team.
Each team chose a name and a symbol which they drew on their face that had to be related to the plant. They were given a card indicating which of the Team Challenge stages each team would start with. The stages were a family challenge that involved working as a team, communicating effectively, integrating and gaining trust with each other by creating spaces for family interaction for children and adults.
One of the interesting stages took place with the assistance of 15 volunteers from Día Solidario. It involved composing letters dedicated to their future selves which would be placed in a time capsule to be opened in 5 years time.
To conclude the gathering, the colleagues enjoyed a traditional Sonoran carne asada (barbecue) in the countryside.
20th Anniversary party
Finally this month of celebration and integration of the company’s values came to an end on 6 October with the 20th anniversary celebration to which, as well as the families, people from different parts of the country and the director of the Mexico operations were invited.
