The GPG Mexico team in Palamara (Dominican Republic) take part in a community cleaning day

On 1 December, a cleaning day was held in Palamara, one of the communities near the Palamara power plant, in which volunteers from the workforce and the community took part.

The day featured an informative session on environmental awareness, waste management, and the health impacts associated with waste contamination.

In addition to the talks, participants embarked on a tour of the community’s most vulnerable areas, actively collecting and eliminating informal waste sites. Proper waste segregation was also implemented to ensure the appropriate disposal of the collected materials.

Key highlights of the day included:

  • The involvement of 30 volunteers, comprised of both staff and community members.
  • Around 300 kilograms of waste, predominantly solid urban waste including plastic bottles, containers, glass, cloth, and organic waste, were collected.
  • The collection area spanned across roughly 8,000 square meters.
