As part of its social responsibility and environmental commitment initiatives, GPG, through its CCC Tuxpan III and IV, successfully carried out the first reforestation day in collaboration with students and teachers from the Países Bajos Km 8 Telebachillerato.
The activity, coordinated by the Tuxpan Social Management team and the Environmental Educators program, aimed to raise ecological awareness among youth, promote collaborative work, and encourage the care of the natural environment through concrete and participatory actions.
The day unfolded in five stages, combining an educational and symbolic approach. First, the 34 participants—including students, volunteers, and teachers—engaged in a team-building activity. Together, they retraced the steps that had led them to this point: from creating the school nursery, collecting germplasm, planting and caring for seedlings, to the final planting held on July 2.
Next, a participatory planning exercise was conducted. Divided into teams, students created a map of the school to determine planting areas. They also addressed key questions such as: Which species should we plant? Where should they be planted? How will we take care of them? What benefits will they bring?
Once all proposals were presented, a vote was held to select the final planting design. This plan served as the basis for planting, which followed guidelines of 60 cm depth and 5 meters spacing between each tree.
A total of 20 trees were planted, consisting of four species:
- 7 cedar trees
- 7 papaya trees
- 2 tamarind trees
- 4 moringa trees
As a symbolic closing, each student stamped their handprint on the Commitment Poster and wrote a personal pledge related to caring for the trees, reaffirming their role as active agents in environmental protection.
“I will make sure each tree gets the care it needs.” – Anel Herbert, Coordinator, Telebachillerato
“I want to keep participating in more reforestation efforts in my community.” – Valeria, volunteer
“Even though I’m about to graduate, I’ll continue actively working in the nursery.” – Andrés, student
This day not only planted trees but also sowed awareness, responsibility, and intergenerational collaboration. Initiatives like this strengthen ties with the community and bring us closer to a culture of active sustainability.
