GPG Chile Participates in Educational Talks as Part of the Milán Solar Photovoltaic Plant Project (Chile)

As part of the Milán Solar Photovoltaic Plant Project (RCA No. 89/2020) and in compliance with Voluntary Environmental Commitment 9.1, titled “Voluntary Environmental Commitment: Environmental Education Talk,” three educational talks were held on March 12, 13, and 14, 2025, each lasting 45 minutes, at the Bicentennial School of Agricultural Excellence in Molina, located in Quechereguas s/n, Molina, Maule Region (Chile).

The aim of these sessions was to raise awareness among high school students—specifically the 4th year B class—about renewable energy and sustainability. During the presentations, key topics were addressed such as the environmental impact of renewable energies, their applications, and professional opportunities in the sector.

Renewable Energy: Powering a Sustainable Future

This first talk took place on March 12, 2025, at 10:15 a.m., introducing students to the concept of renewable energy by explaining what it is and outlining its main types: solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal energy.

The talk concluded with an interactive quiz that allowed students to assess their knowledge of the topic.

Photovoltaic Technology and Its Market

In the second session, held on March 13, 2025, at 10:15 a.m., the focus shifted to solar photovoltaic energy. The following aspects were discussed: definition and operation of photovoltaic energy, how solar panels work at different scales, differences between solar thermal and photovoltaic energy, types of photovoltaic installations (residential, industrial, utility-scale), devices that include solar panels, and factors driving the growth of solar energy worldwide.

The session included practical activities such as an interactive video explaining how a solar panel works, true-or-false exercises, and a simple calculation of the energy generated by a solar panel.

The Future Today: Practical Applications and Professional Opportunities

The final talk, held on March 14, 2025, at 11:50 a.m., featured the participation of Patricio Martínez, GPG Northern Zone Representative. His presentation included insights into how GPG develops its photovoltaic projects and the various facilities it operates throughout the country.

Afterward, the session focused on the real-world applications of solar energy across different sectors, its impact on society, and related professional opportunities.

The talk ended with an interactive activity in which students discussed possible applications of solar energy in their surroundings. During this exercise, they identified advantages, challenges, and solutions for implementing solar technology both at school and within their communities.

The educational talks fulfilled Voluntary Environmental Commitment No. 1 of the Milán Solar Photovoltaic Plant Project (RCA No. 89/2020), which aimed to promote solar photovoltaic energy as a clean, accessible energy solution with multiple environmental and economic benefits. Through this initiative, students gained a better understanding of the importance of generating electricity without polluting the air, reducing the impact of climate change, and promoting energy independence—especially in agricultural and rural areas.
