GPG Costa Rica has donated textbooks to more than 200 children from schools near the Torito hydroelectric power plant

GPG Costa Rica has delivered 836 textbooks for 209 students from schools near the Torito hydroelectric plant (Costa Rica).

“Books for all” Programme

Once again this year ,GPG Costa Rica is pleased to have been a sponsor of the “Books for all” programme, which consists of the donation by private companies of textbooks whose contents are in line with the didactic plans of the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education.

Although these books are not compulsory, they are of great help as a method for learning for thousands of children, especially for the most economically disadvantaged who otherwise would not have access to them.

This year, the students benefited by the donation are spread over five schools.

For Jesica Bogantes, National Programme Coordinator, the support of private companies is “essential for the sustainability of the programme and she considers Naturgy to be a fundamental pillar for the Turrialba area”.

On the other hand, the directors of the different educational centres expressed their gratitude as they considered that “this type of aid provides equal opportunities for all students because many would not be able to access this material if it were not for the sponsorship of companies like ours”.

“At this school, where we only have one teacher for all the classes in the same classroom, this material is vital as it allows us to better organise the lessons and keep the interest of all the students. Without a doubt, if it weren’t for these aids, they wouldn’t have access to books”, Alba Campos Esquivel, Head teacher of the Peralta Unidocente School
