The Torito hydroelectric power plant (Turrialba, Costa Rica) has successfully completed its annual maintenance, once again demonstrating its commitment to operational excellence and safety. This maintenance, which was planned and prepared in advance, faced unexpected challenges, but the team was up to the task at all times, overcoming complex obstacles within the planned timeframe.
During maintenance, essential work was carried out on the shaft seal, the guard valve and the vibration system. These works were carried out without setbacks, ensuring that the commissioning of the plant is not hindered. The collaborative spirit and problem-solving skills of the entire team were key to the success of this operation.
Safety standards and continuous improvement
It is important to emphasise that the established safety standards have been rigorously complied with. The management of work permits, the implementation of safety procedures and/or instructions, and the use of individual and collective safety equipment were key aspects that ensured the safety of all involved and the efficiency of the process.
In addition, meetings were held to discuss the lessons learned during this outage, which shall further improve procedures and preparedness for future operations. Actions taken include the modification of procedures, technical instructions and checklists, as well as the definition of new contingency plans.
