GPG delivers honey extraction equipment to Quilombola communities in São João do Piauí (Piauí, Brazil)

On 16 November, GPG Brasil, through the Sertão I and Sobral I photovoltaic plants, donated honey extraction equipment for collective use to the communities of Malhada, Junco, Estreito, Elizie, Curral Velho and Riacho do Anselmo.

A few months ago, they had delivered beehives, clothing and bee-keeping tools as part of an effort to support the communities. This initiative complements the work carried out in 2022, where other localities also benefited.

With this delivery, approximately 150 families will be impacted, providing opportunities in a region with adverse socio-economic conditions.

The goal is to strengthen the bee-keeping project, promoting the production of honey, propolis, royal jelly, pollen and wax from Apis mellifera bees.

In 2024, according to the Riacho dos Negros Territorial Association, honey production reached approximately 7 tonnes of honey per year. It is estimated that, by April 2025, the benefiting families will be able to produce around 13 tonnes per year, generating community income of around R$250,000.00 from the sale of honey.

The project will include advisory actions and continuous monitoring of producers, with the aim of ensuring their sustainability. In the long term, it is hoped that this effort will serve as a significant incentive and support to improve the economy of the Quilombola communities.
