With outstanding participation from employees and their families, on May 30 a valuable talk was held at the Naco Nogales Combined Cycle Plant (CCG) focused on emotional management, with special attention to addictions and suicide prevention. During the session, psychologists and specialists shared tools and strategies to address these issues from both a professional and human perspective.
Suicide is a serious public health concern in Mexico, especially among young people. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 8,837 suicides were recorded in 2023, representing 1.1% of all deaths in the country. The national suicide rate stood at 6.8 per 100,000 inhabitants, with a significantly higher incidence in men (11.4) than in women (2.5).
It is especially alarming that suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people, and the fourth among adolescents and individuals aged 15 to 29. However, it is preventable with emotional support, resilience building, and appropriate mental health strategies.
For the Naco Nogales Combined Cycle Power Plant, located in the border city of Agua Prieta, Sonora, suicide and substance abuse prevention are a top priority, as part of its commitment to the comprehensive well-being of its employees.
GPG extends its sincere thanks to all participants for their active engagement and interest, and to the experts for providing a space for learning, emotional support, and open dialogue. This event left us with meaningful reflections and encourages us to continue building healthier, more empathetic, and more aware environments.
