In response to soaring temperatures exceeding 45°C in the region, the Naco Nogales Combined Cycle Power Plant has intensified its preventive measures to safeguard workers’ health against the risk of heatstroke. As part of these efforts, an informative session was held on Friday, June 20, for all personnel, led by Dr. Martín Ramírez.
The session covered key topics such as:
- Recognizing the symptoms of heatstroke
- Immediate actions in case of an emergency
- Effective prevention strategies
This initiative was organized by the People, Organization and Culture (POC) team, reaffirming its commitment to the safety and well-being of all employees.
Main recommendations shared:
- Staying hydrated throughout the workday
- Wearing light and appropriate clothing
- Early identification of warning signs by both staff and supervisors
- Taking regular breaks in cool areas
According to the 2025 Epidemiological Report on Extreme Natural Temperatures, the state of Sonora has reported 6 heat-related cases by epidemiological week 16, with no fatalities. This is in stark contrast to the 399 cases and 52 deaths reported in 2024, highlighting the importance of maintaining active monitoring and preventive measures.
Immediate actions implemented at the plant include:
- Installing hydration stations
- Rescheduling intense physical activities to cooler hours
- Distributing informational materials on heatstroke prevention
Through these actions, CCC Naco Nogales reaffirms its commitment to occupational health and to fostering a culture of prevention, adapting proactively to the region’s extreme climate conditions.
