From June 31 to July 4, the Bií Hioxo wind farm, through its Nacanu’ Bií Community House, held the third edition of the Summer Course at the Playa Vicente Agency (Juchitán), with the goal of providing children with spaces and activities that support their development, promoting a culture of peace, environmental care and community shared responsibility.
For five days, 30 boys and girls from Cristóbal Colón Elementary School participated in playful, reflective, and collaborative activities that encouraged teamwork, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Accompanied by 10 Xquendas teenage volunteers — youths between 13 and 15 years old training as agents of change — the course became a space for collective learning and youth leadership.
As part of strengthening the volunteer program, whistles were given to four Xquendas youths who demonstrated commitment, responsibility, enthusiasm, and leadership throughout the week. This gesture symbolically recognizes them as positive role models within their community.
The main themes of the course were the culture of peace and the environment, addressed through experiential activities such as:
Making group banners, face painting, and defining an action motto.
Guided songs and integration games.
Workshops on seed classification and environmental care.
Using the “emotion meter” to identify and express emotions.
Making bracelets as symbols of identity and connection.
The course also included the participation of the Juchitán Fire Department, who shared with the children the importance of their work, fire fighting, and the value of public service. This collaboration reinforces the social engagement model promoted by GPG Mexico, based on building alliances with local actors to generate collective impact.
“These types of activities hadn’t been held for two years… fortunately, we now have a roof, which makes it more comfortable for everyone. In fact, the end-of-course ceremony will be held here for preschool, elementary, and secondary students,” said Erick, Director of Cristóbal Colón School.
This way, the Bií Hioxo wind farm, as part of GPG Mexico, reaffirms its commitment to community development in Juchitán, promoting values such as inclusion, respect, cooperation, and care for the environment. Through the Nacanu’ Bií Community House, formative spaces are consolidated that connect youth with their territory, strengthening the social fabric from the ground up.
