GPG participates in the 1st National Congress on Dissemination and Research in Engineering (Veracruz, Mexico)

As part of the International Mother Language Day celebrations, Adamaris Bautista García, a scholarship recipient of the “Con Día Solidario voy a la Universidad” program, took part in the 1st National Congress on Dissemination and Research in Engineering and the 3rd ODS Summit: Transversality of the 2030 Agenda in Science, Art, Culture, Inclusion, and Education, organized by the Veracruz Ministry of Education.

During her presentation, Adamaris emphasized the importance of preserving Totonac culture and safeguarding its language-an essential component of the identity of indigenous communities in northern Veracruz who continue to speak it.

She underscored the urgent need to implementpublic policies that support the teaching of this language in schools where its use is still documented.

The Veracruz Ministry of Education extended the invitation to this event through the Technological Institute of Naranjos Amatlán, where Adamaris is currently completing her final semesters in Industrial Engineering.

Additionally, Adamaris highlighted the significance of integrating children and young people into the daily use and transmission of their mother tongue, ensuring its preservation for future generations.

Moreover, the social management team in Tuxpan shared insights on the creation process of the bilingual Totonac-Spanish cookbook “Cocinando el Sabor de Linda Vista”, a project developed in collaboration with the scholarship program.

“Preservation is essential not only to keep traditions and ancestral knowledge alive but also to promote linguistic, cultural, and gastronomic diversity”stated Adamaris Bautista

“My experience at the Congress was a unique opportunity to share and learn. It has inspired me to continue working toward the preservation of the Totonac language and other indigenous languages, ensuring they are never lost and remain a bridge between generations and cultures. Language is the roadmap of a culture-it tells you where its people come from and where they are headed” expressed Arianna Rueda de León, Head of Liaison at the Technological Institute of Naranjos Amatlán
