Reforestations in the neighboring communities of the Norte Durango Combined Cycle Power Plant in Mexico

For several years now, the CCP Norte Durango team has been organizing a reforestation campaign around the Norte Durango combined cycle power plant together with neighboring communities.

This year, due to the installation of a green house for planting trees at the power plant, a decision was made to organize a series of events to meet the requirements for plants and vegetation for the schools in the area.

At the Benito Juárez primary school in the Abraham González community, a reforestation event took place on the 5th and 6th of July. A total of 50 Pinus greggi trees, a pine species native of Mexico and referred to as “palo prieto”, were planted. These trees have been growing successfully in the power plant’s greenhouse.

The first day saw the participation of 18 volunteers from the company, while on the second day there were 14 volunteers involved.

Another reforestation event was organized on the third day at the primary school in the Carlos Real community. Similarly, 50 trees of the same Pinus greggi species were planted, with 12 volunteers taking part.

All three reforestation events involved the active participation of children, parents, as well as administrative and academic staff from the schools.

The communities have undertaken the responsibility of preserving the newly planted trees.

It is hoped that in the forthcoming years,  GPG will be able to plant additional specimens cultivated in our greenhouse, resulting in heightened vegetation coverage within the communities, as such enhancing biodiversity, the microclimate of the facilities, and ultimately improving the quality of life for the local residents.
