The GPG Mexico team has been assisting in the establishment of a dedicated space for individuals with disabilities at the DIF Municipal Durango shelter.
The DIF shelter, located in the capital city of Durango state, has been providing assistance to homeless individuals, migrants, and residents from rural communities. These individuals visit the city for medical services or official procedures and often lack the means to afford accommodation.
Nevertheless, despite these efforts, the DIF lacked a dedicated area to cater to individuals with limited physical mobility, visual impairments, or other forms of cognitive or motor disabilities. Consequently, in collaboration with the GPG Durango North combined cycle plant, a space was renovated to establish the Area of Attention to People with Disabilities. This area aims to provide assistance, guidance, and appropriate referrals to various local support services for individuals with disabilities.
The connection between GPG and DIF in Durango stems from their shared principles of promoting education, training, sports, and healthcare.
Moreover, the team from the North Durango combined cycle plant has actively participated in the restoration of the “Bebeleche móvil” museum, which had been inactive for several months.
The “Bebeleche” museum, or “Bebeleche móvil” operates as a travelling museum, visiting primary and secondary schools located in communities outside the capital.
Over time, the vehicle experienced damage that resulted in its prolonged inactivity, for many months, at the beginning of the year. Because of this situation, it was decided to carry out repairs with the assistance of GPG. These repairs included addressing any dents on the trailer, applying new paint, maintaining the hydraulic system, fixing the side doors, headlights, horn, and plugs.
Having remained stationary for an extended period, the Bebeleche móvil is now back on the road and will soon resume its mission of travelling throughout the state to bring science exhibitions to children.
