As part of World Environmental Education Day, GPG Mexico promoted a series of initiatives at the Naco Nogales and Bií Hioxo plants, aligned with its commitment to sustainability and education.
In Juchitán, the Bií Hioxo Wind Farm carried out a day of environmental training and awareness activities for volunteers and students, coordinated with the Nacanu’ Bií Community Center.
Among the activities, the workshop “Learn to Separate Waste” stood out. It was offered to Xquendas volunteers from the Community Center and covered topics such as proper waste classification, final disposal, and the importance of adopting responsible habits.
Putting the lessons into practice, participants also engaged in a hands‑on activity called “Getting to Know Waste”, during which attendees identified different types of waste and learned how to classify them correctly. The practical nature of this section helped address common questions in an interactive and engaging way.

These activities were also replicated with students from Telesecundaria Playa Vicente and Cristóbal Colón Elementary School, using group dynamics focused on waste separation and the adoption of responsible environmental practices. To help students integrate these habits into their daily lives, the “Environmental Commitment” activity was held, giving them space to share how they planned to apply what they had learned.
The day concluded with a reforestation activity, during which 100 trees were planted with the support of volunteers, teachers, and the Community Center team.

Meanwhile, at the Naco Nogales Combined Cycle Plant (CCC), the second reforestation campaign took place in coordination with the local municipality. Around 20 participants joined in planting 32 trees across two areas of the Unidad Dos park.
Thanks to the rainfall recorded in previous days, soil conditions were favorable for planting, increasing the likelihood of successful growth of the new trees.

Following this second initiative, the 32 newly planted trees add to the 33 planted during a previous event, which have already begun to take root. This brings the total to 65 new trees integrated into the surroundings, contributing to the recovery of green areas in the urban zone.
These new green spaces improve residents’ quality of life and help strengthen community commitment to environmental care.
These initiatives demonstrate how environmental education can go beyond awareness, translating into concrete actions through active community participation.
Through efforts like these, GPG Mexico continues promoting a responsible energy transition based on collaboration with communities to foster greater sustainability.
