We took part in the National Summit on Technological Development in Mexico

Was held at the Instituto Tecnológico de Durango (ITD), dedicated to students, scholars and researchers from Mexico’s Technological Institutes and the National Centre for Technological Research and Development (Centro Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Tecnológico).

The aim of this event was to develop and present creative projects with scalability characteristics that strengthen research and technological development capacities in the solution of problems in the different sectors: economic, services and social, present at local, regional and national level.

In addition, it sought to promote entrepreneurial skills in the participants, through the application of acquired knowledge, skills related to technology transfer, innovation and commercialisation in business development.

More than 1,000 students took part in the competition and the winners received financial incentives as prizes that encourage them to continue their education and to acquire with enthusiasm the specialised knowledge of their profession.

Students took part in the following six categories:

  • Aeronautics, with the following application areas: high performance materials for the design of new prototypes and the development and use of composite materials.
  • Agro-industrial: agricultural products, seafood, processed food, food safety in food production.
  • Automotive: high-performance materials for the design of new prototypes, automation, recycling and reuse of auto parts, accessories and complementary devices for autonomous and intelligent cars, hybrid and electric cars, manufacturing of electronic components.
  • Green energy: optimisation of fossil fuels, use of bio-based products for energy production, use of renewable energy sources, efficient use of energy, transition processes from fossil to renewable energy in industry, systems to improve energy management, energy coverage projects in remote areas of the country.
  • Inclusive Social Innovation: health care and wellness, quality education, clean water and sanitation, sustainable and self-sufficient electricity, industrial infrastructure and urbanisation.
  • Industry 4.0 Information and Communication Technologies: effective application of Industry 4.0 technologies for the optimisation of Mexican industry production, logistics platforms, digital marketing strategies and strengthening of supply chains.

José Salinas Meza and David Adrián Nájera Vela from our combined cycle power plant Norte Durango participated as jurors in the categories of Green Energy and Inclusive Social Innovation.

Isela Flores Montenegro, director of the Instituto Tecnológico de Durango, thanked the students for their “dedication and vision, seeking to strengthen the growth of our society in an environment that explores solutions but is also responsible and committed to the preservation of our resources”.
