Water Resources

Water is a vital element for life and natural ecosystems, as well as for economic activity and the well-being of society. For this reason, its management deserves special consideration. At GPG, caring for this resource is understood as a shared responsibility that requires action at individual, community, corporate and governmental levels.

The strategy implemented at GPG for water resource management, includes minimizing freshwater consumption by prioritizing the use of seawater or reclaimed wastewater, ensuring the efficient treatment of effluents at its thermal facilities and preventing accidental discharges. This responsible water management not only aims to reduce demand for water resources, but also seeks to protect local water bodies from pollution caused by thermal discharges or chemical effluents.

In line with this commitment, GPG is working to reduce water consumption intensity to below 0.16 m³ per MWh of gross electricity produced, aiming to ensure that more than 90% of the water used is reclaimed water and to keep freshwater consumption at around 1%.dulce.
