The plant has received certification under ISO 9001:2015 (Quality), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management) and Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001) standards, as well as Clean Industry recognition from Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA). It is currently in the process of renewing this certification.
Global Power Generation has worked continuously with the affected community. Besides working on the project itself, which is a wealth generator in its own right, it has launched initiatives that help to improve the living conditions of local inhabitants:
Contribution to the improvement of community institutions: Provision of resources for old people’s homes, as well as the Red Cross in Hermosillo and the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and various education institutions.
Support for stakeholders near the power plant: Renovation of hard-to-reach roads in rural areas near the power plant used mainly by vehicles from Ejidatarios, as well as clearing and removal of undergrowth in streams.
Reforestation of community areas: Reforestation day events have been organised in Colonias, with Schools of various levels of education and Universities, and environmental education activities held for various age groups.
Support for education and culture: Electronic equipment has been donated, installations refurbished and new civil engineering works built, helping to improve the living conditions of people who work at the schools and enhancing student education.
Support for the COVID-19 health emergency: Donation in kind for the Mexican Red Cross branch in Hermosillo, old people’s homes and daycare centres, and the Zone 14 IMSS General Hospital for the protection of medical staff and the improvement of care to patients with COVID-19.
