Meeting its firm commitment to respect for human rights and, more specifically, traditional ways of life, Global Power Generation has worked continuously with the community concerned — besides the project itself, a wealth generator in its own right — and launched initiatives to improve living conditions for the area’s local inhabitants.

After identifying the needs of the community affected by the project, the company is developing several programmes aimed at various interest groups based on several lines of action:

Contribution to the improvement of community infrastructures: Paving for the Playa Vicente Agency; restoration of sites with Zapotec cultural value: Chiguezee Sanctuary and Gue´la´ Be´ñe´ Sanctuary; refurbishment of the Santa Martha sports centre in the 7ma Section; refurbishment work at CENDI; support for the reconstruction of the perimeter fence for the Juchiteco Ecology Forum; Biniza sports facility and schools on the site, in partnership with companies in the sector and the Mexican Wind Power Association (AMDEE).

Reforestation of community areas: Reforestation of 168 hectares of Protected Natural Areas in San Antonio el Reten, San Miguel Chimalapa, under supervision by SEMARNAT through the National Commission for Protected Natural Areas (CONANP).

Support for education and culture: Ongoing training and skills development for the community and volunteers in the fields of Environmental Education (ecosystem services, urban gardens, recycling, circular economy), Financial Education, the Promotion of a culture of peace and values through community films and film discussions.

Support for the COVID-19 health emergency: Donation in kind to the “Macedonio Benítez Fuentes” General Hospital and to Juchitán de Zaragoza Volunteer Firefighters to protect medical staff and improve care for patients with COVID-19.
