Crisléia and Ronaldo, GPG Brazil’s Quilombola scholarship holders, graduate in Law

On January 27th, the law graduation ceremony was held at the Raimundo Sá Institute of Higher Education, located in the city of Picos, in the northeastern state of Piauí. Among the graduates were Crisléia Rodrigues and Ronaldo Rodrigues, originally from the Quilombola indigenous communities of the São João de Piauí region, neighbours of our Sobral I photovoltaic plant in Brazil.

This ceremony not only represents Crisléia and Ronaldo’s academic achievement, but also marks the end of a five-year cycle of an innovative Social Engagement project. Since its inception, this project has been committed to strengthening local communities by providing access to higher education and technical training, with the aim of reducing the educational gap affecting these disadvantaged communities.

In 2019, GPG Brazil established an agreement with Faculdade Raimundo Sá in Picos to offer scholarships in higher education. After a rigorous selection process among the communities, six young people were nominated as candidates. Over the past five years, Crisléia and Ronaldo persevered and successfully completed the academic programme, achieving their personal, family and community goals, despite the challenges they faced.

GPG’s commitment to the success of the students has been evident over the years, providing conversations, mentoring, psychological support and support from community leaders and the on-site social manager.

“Congratulations to these two young people who undertook this journey in 2019, overcame the challenges of a new life and are now about to complete this journey!” said Sanclé Couto, Sobral I’s social manager.
