Almost a year after its arrival in Chile, Global Power Generation Chile (GPG Chile) has realised its commitment to entering the Chilean market The awarding of the 204MW Cabo Leones II wind farm in the Huasco province and the 120MW photovoltaic plant in the Atacama desert, reflect GPG’s potential in highly competitive tender processes, achieving the top results in a short space of time. This successful bid consolidates the interest of GPG in establishing a foothold in the Chilean market, as set forth in the latest Strategic Plan, presented last May. This is the first power generation project in Chile for GAS NATURAL FENOSA, in which the company will eventually supply 858 GWh of electricity a year, entirely generated with renewable energy, with a mix of wind and solar power. The total investment planned for the development of both projects is 325 million euros. The Cabo Leones II wind farm belongs to GPG and Grupo Ibereólica. As well as this award, GPG still aims to position itself in power generation with combined cycle technologies, harnessing the anticipated strength that this technology brings to the country’s energy matrix.
