GPG Mexico celebrates 8M through its colloquium titled: “An afternoon among friends” (Oaxaca, México)

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March, an important date to commemorate the women’s movement, which strives for gender equality in response to the inequalities that have always existed in our society.

The Bií Hioxo wind farm, in partnership with the Nacanu’ Bií Community Centre, recently hosted a colloquium titled “An afternoon among friends” at the CRI Santa Martha in the Seventh Section of Oaxaca, Mexico. The gathering brought together 50 women from Juchitán, including family members of collaborators and owners, neighbours, friends, and various stakeholders.

The session was led by psychologist Priscila Magariño Cabrera, who addressed the issue of “Fear” and led the women through guided exercises to share their strengths, successes and fears. This created a highly emotional environment in which the participants were able to overcome their initial reluctance to disclose their feelings in the colloquium.

At the end of this event, and as a testament to this activity to give voice to all women in our community, a commemorative mural was made where each participant left their handprint, accompanied by powerful phrases they felt during the talk, such as: “Resilience”“I am afraid but I am strong” or “Warrior”

Finally, Ms Magariño Cabrera concluded her contribution with the sentence: “Today is 8 March, we are women and we are no longer afraid”.

This is how the women’s colloquium played out:

GPG Mexico is committed to creating safe spaces for everyone, free from discrimination, and to standing with movements that foster a culture of peace and ensure the welfare of the surrounding communities.
