Last November, the Nacanu’ Bií Community House of the Bií Hioxo wind farm, located in Juchitán, Oaxaca, received environmental training aimed at providing and reinforcing the knowledge of this axis, which is part of the social relationship model of the Corporate Responsibility Policy.
This training was given by biologists Erika Litzahaya Mendoza Varela and Margarita Cano Ramirez in two modalities:
- 20 hours online training, or
- 18 hours face-to-face training.
The topics covered respond to the environmental needs identified at the site, in line with corporate objectives, including:
- Soil improvement.
- Collection and storage of local germplasm.
- Germination.
- Bacterial composting and Bokashi techniques.
- Planting beds.
- Vermicompost.
Each activity was carried out using recycled techniques and materials, with the aim of making the most of disposable resources such as PET bottles.
The result of this training was:
- 2 medium containers of vermicompost.
- 2 planting beds with coriander, radish, onion, carrot and chili seeds
- 4 seed boxes with epazote and chamomile.
- 5 25-kg-bags of soil enriched with perlite and coconut fibre.
- 1 box of bacterial compost.
- 8 cuttings of Guie’ Chachi (rubra plumage) and winged calabash.
- 11 germinated seeds of guie’ tiqui (bombax ellipticum).
- 1 bokashi.
It is important to mention that during 2024 the wind farm has carried out various activities aimed at promoting care for the environment, such as reforestation, cleaning of public spaces, germination and planting of zapalote chico corn, bacterial compost. These last two activities took place during the Nacanu’ Bií 2024 Summer Course, in which more than 200 children participated.
“How many indigenous peoples are there in Oaxaca? There are many, and each of them has characteristics that make them different. The same thing happens with plants, there is a huge variety, there are plants that you can enjoy that do not exist anywhere else because they are endemic to Oaxaca”, explains the biologist Érika Mendoza.
