Xquendas’ Get-Together marks the conclusion of the Nacanu’ Bií 2024 Summer Course in Oaxaca, Mexico

On August 10th, a gathering was held for the Xquendas, young people aged 13 to 35 who volunteered during the Nacanu’ Bií 2024 Summer Course, organised by the Bií Hioxo wind farm and its Nacanu’ Bií Community Centre in Juchitán, Oaxaca.

The purpose of this event was to recognise the effort and commitment of each young Zapotec participant. Through their involvement, they developed and strengthened skills such as teamwork, promoting a culture of peace, environmental awareness, group management, and other important tools, transforming them into agents of change within the community and strategic allies for GPG Mexico.

The event was attended by 36 Xquendas, who gathered at the “Las Palmas” swimming pool, where they enjoyed the facilities along with fruit drinks, grilled meat tacos, and a snack table offering a wide variety of treats.

As the final activity, they participated in the “Values Cube” exercise, where they reflected on the lessons learned, strengthening their sense of belonging and establishing commitments to continue contributing to the community. During the event, two whistles were awarded, symbolising recognition for those volunteers who excelled in leadership, commitment, and passion.

“The most important value I gained from this course is inclusion. The greatest lesson I learned was the responsibility of working with children, and my commitment is to continue engaging in activities that help the community”Roselia Coral Sánchez Zaca, Xquenda.

“I feel very happy and grateful for making new friends and meeting new people. Thank you for accepting me, and I’m sorry for being so emotional”Evelyn Esteva Vicente.

“I want to give this whistle to someone for whom this was her first summer course, but she has been a Xquenda for months. She has grown and learned a lot, but most importantly, she taught us that being “different” does not limit you from achieving what you want”Juan de Jesús Castillo Alonso, Social Manager.

Having a group of volunteers reflects the work done by the social team, allowing us to strengthen ties with the community and better understand the lives of the people in the areas where GPG Mexico operates, while promoting activities that enhance their quality of life.
