La Caatinga is a Brazilian ecosystem characterised by desert and xerophytic flora, thorny forests, cacti and thick-barked plants. Many plants are annuals, so they grow, flower and die during the short rainy season.
This ecosystem extends across 8 Brazilian states, located in the northeast, including the state of Piauí where the Sertão I and Sobral I photovoltaic plants are located.
On 7 June, to mark the Environment Week (on the occasion of the world day celebrated internationally on 5 June), an event was held with the operation and maintenance technicians, as well as with municipal representatives of São João do Piauí, the municipal secretary of the Environment Mr. Vinicius Andreti and the coordinator Maiara Araujo de Marcedo, who donated endemic seedlings of the Caatinga.
The following actions were carried out on the day:
- Preventive Security Dialogues
- Conference on the environment, where awareness was raised about climate change and individual and group actions in order to adapt to it and the commitments we can make to care for the planet.
- Dissemination of the Murals campaign of the two power plants.
- Delivery of fruit seedlings native to the region that were donated by the municipal environmental department.
- Planting of seedlings in the implementation area of the Programme for the Recovery of Degraded Areas (PRAD) of the Sertão I Photovoltaic Plant.
- Conclusions from the talk and the experience and reinforcement of environmental education.
“In celebration of National Environment Week, we held a breakfast meeting with a lot of talking with our employees to discuss a bit about our relationship with the environment and our commitments to climate change. It is with pride to see we are part of a company that is seeking to educate employees, communities and the general public for resilience and care for our planet,” commented Sanclé Couto, community relations manager.
